The Houston Summer Internship is an accessible approach to exposing and empowering those interested in pursuing outreach and possible fieldwork. Interns form a team reaching out to various unreached people groups in Houston. Experienced missionaries provide structured training and coaching throughout the summer. The Houston Summer internship catalyzes interns to develop the core competencies needed to become effective missionaries through seminars, peer learning, and putting into practice what is learned.
About the Houston Summer Internship
The nations are coming to Texas in droves. Yes, the Lone Star State has become a magnet for some of the world’s most unreached peoples. Houston and Austin are especially significant hubs for engaging some of the least evangelized people groups from around the globe.
This makes Texas a strategic place for the people of God to live on mission. Global Gates is on the front lines of where God is at work in this state as we seek to reach people from Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh backgrounds with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This internship is a two-month cross-cultural, missionary training. It started in Houston and has expanded to now include Austin.
Training from Experts
The Houston Summer Internship is geared to those who are looking to gain insight and experience into what full-time service in a cross-cultural context looks like. We encourage our interns to live in an apartment complex that houses a sizeable population of unreached people for at least the two-month duration of the internship.
Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00-12:00 are reserved for training. These weekly meetings are a time for interns to gather as a group with mentors for a meal, community, fellowship, and equipping.
Veteran practitioners train interns in best missionary practices.
Together with mentors, interns gather unreached people in their apartment complexes. Interns learn and apply contextual gospel sharing with Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs.
Global Gates sends interns on a short-term mission trip to the country of origin of their people group to examine the inner workings of a Jesus movement.
Interns also will receive training in Bible storying, how to learn a new language, case studies, “T4T – Training for Trainers,” finding Fourth Soil people, and cross-cultural sharing and living.
Ministry and outreach will take place during the afternoon and evenings most days of the week.
