Global Gates Research Mapping Team Member

Mission Description Summary

The Global Gates Research Mapping Team Member works as part of the research team to identify, prioritize, and communicate where evangelists and missionaries are most needed among unreached people groups (UPGs) in North American gateway cities and around the world. This team member’s contribution will specifically focus on communicating this need by creating creative and interactive maps through geographic information systems (GIS) software.

Major Responsibilities and Function

  • Develop a plan to spatially communicate population density and population change over time to indicate where missionaries can focus their efforts.
  • Work alongside Priority Matrix Manager to determine the appropriate Census data points to use for creating data sets to be loaded into the GIS software
  • Create a streamlined process for updating US Census ACS data annually to keep maps up to date.
  • Create and maintain new, functional, compelling visualizations for mobilizing prayer and laborers among priority people groups.
  • Attend a monthly online meeting with the Global Gates supervisor.
  • This role can be volunteer, part-time, or full-time with additional responsibilities.

Why is This Position Needed?

Global Gates and UPGNorthAmerica.com play a crucial role in identifying the most significant unreached people groups in North America. Global Gates is strategically positioned to influence the Body of Christ in responding to priority needs among North American unreached people group communities and, increasingly, in global gateway cities around the world. As we continue to expand our presence around the world, we will need to increasingly collaborate with other researchers and maintain the various databases and mobilization tools we manage.

Location

The Global Gates Research Mapping Team members may live anywhere, but access to quality Internet is necessary. Most Global Gates leadership meetings take place through Zoom online video conferences.

Accountability

  • Submit short monthly reports to the Global Gates Director of Research.
  • Meet or video conference with the Global Gates Director of Research once a month to evaluate and strengthen the work.

Training

Global Gates offers customized training for our missionaries called Pathways to Success. Depending on the missionary’s prior experience, Pathways could involve building skills in language learning, ethnographic research, mobilizing and training partners, spiritual formation, evangelism and discipleship, church planting methodology, and leadership. To become an effective Missions Catalyst, the missionary candidate may need to develop particular skills first. Global Gates offers a one-week Missions Catalyst training and ongoing coaching to assist missionaries in their task.
