Advancing the Kingdom during Quarantine

What does it look like to advance the Kingdom of God during quarantine? Another way to ask that question is how do I redeem the time? The Apostle Paul tells us to make the best use of our time, because the days are evil (Eph. 5:16).

You might be trying to figure out how to live on mission amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Or, you could be wondering what, for who, and how you should pray. Some other challenges might be to think of ways to serve others, meet needs, grow spiritually, and stimulate your mind in a meaningful way. Our desire is to help you do these things, which is why we created “Advancing the Kingdom during Quarantine” (see the graphic below).

The coronavirus has brought much of the world to a standstill. You might have COVID-19. Maybe one of your family members or friends is fighting the virus. You might even have lost a loved one to it. Or, maybe you are dealing with job loss, financial issues, loneliness, cabin fever, or fear and anxiety.

The good news is God sees you. He loves you. He knows what is happening to you and around the globe. He is not surprised, nor is he shaken by any of this. In fact, God is still at work, and nothing can thwart or hinder his mission from being accomplished. God is faithful to complete every good work, and that will ultimately culminate in the completion of his mission when worshipers from every tongue, tribe, and nation are gathered before the throne singing his praises (Rev. 7:9-10).

We are still called to make disciples (Matt. 28:18-20) whether we are in a global health crisis or in a prosperous season. Paul tells us in 2 Cor. 5:17-21 that God entrusted to us the ministry of reconciliation. God gave you a ministry. Let that sink in. Just because we are facing a pandemic and quarantine does not mean this ministry is on pause or that we are taking a hiatus from God’s mission. The way we go about it just looks different. We have our marching orders, and that is to be gospel heralds who implore others to be reconciled to God.

So, the challenge we are giving you is to go through “Advancing the Kingdom during Quarantine,” and ask yourself, your family, friends, church, and small group what does it look like for you and them to do the things on this list. The action steps following these conversations should be application and accountability.
