Gateway City Focus: North Carolina Triangle

Dear Friend,

As Global Gates gets older, God continues to expand our gospel reach across North America and to the ends of the earth. Our missions presence now includes North Carolina’s Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill). I’m ecstatic to have one of your Global Gates missionaries share about the doors God is opening for us to engage our unreached neighbors in the Triangle:

Prayer and prayer walking have been foundational for our team to discover where God is at work in the Triangle. I heard Wolof lived near my family and I, so I decided to prayer walk their supposed location. I prayed, “Lord, please let me meet a West African Muslim man today, who might be Wolof.”

The Wolof are a Muslim unreached people group from Senegal and Gambia in West Africa. The majority of Wolof diaspora in North America landed in New York City. The second largest Wolof population in North America is in our city. While serving as a missionary in West Africa, I met many Wolof and even learned some of their language.

As I prayer walked that day, nothing happened at first. But as I rounded the corner of a local shopping area I was shocked when I saw a corner shop with “African Market” on the marquee. As I drew near to the shop, a West African man approached me. I greeted him in Wolof, much to his shock, and a friendship began. Since that day, I have spent countless hours at that market, even working there, stocking shelves and pricing items. This has enabled me to meet hundreds of Wolof, and spend holidays with them in their mosque and community center.

Our mission field extends way beyond Wolof, though. The Triangle of North Carolina boasts a population of more than 2.1 million people, and is home to several other unreached people groups. Along with Wolof, Global Gates focuses its outreach and ministry in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding areas toward Afghan Muslims and Moroccan Arab Muslims. The need for more laborers to enter the harvest is great, and this is especially true when it comes to finding a gospel witness for Indian Hindi and Gujarati Hindus.

Thank you, dear friend, for helping us advance the gospel among the world’s most unevangelized populations in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill and their ends of the earth communities.

Grateful for you,

David Garrison
