Global Gates at Ground Zero

Dear Ministry Partner,

Yesterday, I received this message from one of our Global Gates missionaries:

Ground Zero for Coronavirus

  • Last night our neighborhood got the unfortunate designation as ‘ground zero’ for COVID-19 in America. Praise God, our family is well, but that is not the case for so many of our friends and neighbors. As we look out our apartment windows, we see empty streets, shuttered stores, and rising over the apartment buildings we see Elmhurst Hospital, which had 13 people die with coronavirus just yesterday.
  • Jackson Heights/Elmhurst also has the distinction of being the most diverse neighborhood in the US with more than 138 languages. Many of the people dying are from the very unreached people groups we serve. Most don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior. We have all had friends die because of coronavirus. We know many families sick with the virus. We know many more who are self-isolating because they are suspected of having the virus.

What’s happening today in New York City is coming to a neighborhood near you. But we are not without hope. Instead, we can, “Redeem the time, for the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16).  Here’s how you can make a difference right now:

  1. Pray that God would use the more than 3,000 Bibles and New Testaments that Global Gates teams distributed in Jackson Heights/Elmhurst this past year.
  2. Pray for those unreached who are now asking God, “What will happen to me if I die?”
  3. Pray for our Global Gates social media outreach to the millions of unreached individuals who are sheltering at home and searching familiar websites for messages of hope.
  4. Pray for Global Gates missionaries who have relocated to congested urban neighborhoods to be a light in this season of darkness and despair.

We at Global Gates recognize that many of you are facing job loss, isolation, and uncertainty. Please know that we are praying for you! We have church partners that have suspended their giving, because they have been unable to convene church services. We’re all in this together.

At the same time, you may be asking, “How can I make a difference?” Praise God if you are able to contribute at this time of crisis. Thank you for your special gifts during these lean days. We need your help more than ever!

If God has blessed you with the ability to give, please prayerfully consider donating to Global Gates today, so we can continue this vital ministry! This is the season for the Body of Christ to step up to the challenge that is set before us!

Grateful for you,

David Garrison
