Short-Term Missions

Short-Term trips include diaspora training, field prep, and hands-on experience connecting with people of peace in the city and beginning to have a gospel conversation with them.

How to Join a Short-Term Mission Trip

Build Your team and choose a location

We suggest that a team consist of 3-12 people. Some locations are suitable for larger groups. Most of our weeks are open to multiple age groups, however, some locations and weeks are limited to age 18 and older due to the context in the field. Please contact us to discuss other possibilities if you’d like to do something different.

Tell Us You Are Interested

Contact Mike Sowers at msowers@globalgates.info to let him know which city from the list below you’re interested in serving. To help us connect your team with the right opportunity, please also include:

  • Any specific people groups or religious groups your team would like to work with
  • The number of people on your team
  • Where your team is from (e.g., church small group, college ministry, organization, etc.)
Complete Pre-Trip Assignments

Everyone who participates in a Short Term Mission Trip project MUST complete the required pre-trip training modules. These are designed to be covered in four meetings, with times to practice what you are learning. We recommend doing these every other week for two months. This will allow time to read and practice what you are learning. Please don’t wait until the last minute to begin these training sessions. They are crucial in helping you be effective during the mission trip.

Pay the Participation Fee

The participation fee varies for each location (these fees help subsidize local workers, rent training locations, pay for gospel materials, etc.). Please send fees to the address below with “City Name – Short Term Mission Trips” on the memo of your check.

What to Expect

This is mission work, so our plans can (of course) change at any time, so we ask you to be flexible. Typically, mornings consist of worship, training, and a lunch break. In groups of 2-3, participants spend the day engaging with the community—meeting, praying, sharing the gospel, and distributing materials. Dining in focus populations’ restaurants is encouraged. Daily activities are debriefed in large group meetings, while teams are urged to gather in the evenings for prayer and celebration of God’s work.

Tentative Schedule

Days 1, 2, 4 consists of training from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by rest or transportation to the Sifting site until 3:30 PM. The evening, from 3:30 PM to 9:30 PM, is dedicated to Sifting—prayer walking, meeting people, and sharing Christ. Day 3 or 5, pending confirmation from your Global Gates missionary host, is a free day for sightseeing or personal activities.

Accommodations & Travel

Depending on your location, accommodations vary from dorms, hotels, and AirBnB lodging options. This is also true for travel. In locations like New York, unlimited subway/bus passes are required for convenience and accessibility.
