Based on 2 Corinthians 8, the Apostle Paul commends believers in Macedonia for selflessly giving out of their poverty to address the physical yet temporal needs of fellow believers, members of the Macedonian Society give out of their affluence to meet the spiritual, hence eternal needs of unreached peoples. Specifically, this involves ensuring that the message of the gospel is conveyed in their heart language, such as Farsi, Hindi, Mandarin, Thai, etc. The biblical principle underpinning Macedonian generosity is articulated in verse five, where Paul writes, “…they gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us” (2 Cor. 8:5). This verse underscores the biblical principal that when we prioritize our commitment to the Lord, giving away the blessings he has given to us, becomes a natural expression of discipleship.
