A Change of Plans

“Ramadan changes ministry as we’ve been doing it, but God also provides other open doors. We’re invited into more homes to enjoy iftar (the meal that breaks the fast) with families. Our ESL class attendance drops drastically, but we’re often given precious one-on-one time that we would not have otherwise.

Last week, God gave me a wide open door with my only ESL student. When I first met him, he was wearing a shirt with a large cross on it. That was unexpected. He’s a very intelligent and cultured young man, and I had been hoping to find a way to hear his story. An empty classroom provided that opportunity.

He began telling me how his mom had been drawn to Christ, the Bible, and Christianity for many years. She was especially drawn to the mercy, love, and compassion of Jesus. Eventually, when she had the opportunity, she became a Christian. Together, this student and I threw out the lesson plan and began reading the Sermon on the Mount and discussing it. He was incredibly open. We likely would never have had that opportunity apart from the changes that come during Ramadan.

Please continue to pray for this student and that he will fully embrace Jesus as his Lord and Savior.”
