An Intern on the Front Lines of the Unreached

When she arrived in a gateway city to serve alongside a Global Gates missionary family, this intern wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Coming from a small town in the South, she had grown up in a place where most people had at least heard the Gospel.

What struck her most was realizing that this isn’t the case everywhere.

“I was surprised by the amount of unreached people in the city,” she shared. “I met people who told me they had never heard the Word of God before.”

Serving in that environment stretched her in ways she never anticipated. Naturally more reserved, she quickly learned that ministry in a gateway city requires deep dependence on the Lord.

“I had to rely on Him for what to say,” she said. “I’m not normally an outgoing person and I tend to doubt myself a lot. This internship showed me that as long as I am obedient, God can and will use me.”

Throughout the weeks, she also saw God stirring curiosity among people she met. “I saw several Muslims begin to ask deeper questions about God,” she said.

While the internship had a profound impact on her own walk with the Lord, it was also a tremendous blessing to the missionary family she served alongside. Interns play a vital role in helping long-term workers build relationships, share the Gospel, and engage unreached communities in these global cities.

Looking back, she describes the experience this way:

“This experience grew my relationship with the Lord and changed the way I approach missions in my life now and in the future.”

For anyone considering a similar step, her advice is simple:

“If God has called you to intern with Global Gates, do it. It can be scary, especially if you’ve never done anything like it before, but it is worth it. God will not call you to something and make you do it alone. He will be there with you the entire time.”
