Thanksgiving- When Newcomers Were Welcomed

Over 400 years ago, a small group of Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth, Massachusetts. Arriving far north of their destination and too late in the year, their colony struggled to survive the harsh New England winter.

The following year, the local Native American tribe, led by people like Squanto, helped teach the Pilgrims how to survive in this new land.
To celebrate the abundance of food before their second winter, the Pilgrims and Native Americans gathered together for a feast to give thanks to God.

Here we are 400 years later…
And people continue to re-locate and immigrate to new lands in search of hope and a better future. As Christians in North America, what is our response to newcomers to our lands? Do we welcome others? Do we share of our resources? Do we show Christ’s love? This holiday season, the needs around us are many, but our call is still the same.

In Matthew 25, Jesus said, “I was a stranger (a foreigner), and you welcomed me.” This year, step out in obedience and partner with organizations that welcome and serve the nations, Organizations like Global Gates. To partner with us, please click the link.
