Gateway City: New Jersey

Overview

While the northern half of New Jersey is considered part of Metropolitan New York, Jerseyites often resent being cast in New York City’s shadow. In reality, some unreached people group communities choose northern New Jersey as their primary enclave. South Paterson has the largest concentration of Arab Muslims in the U.S. outside Metro Detroit, and has the dubious reputation of being the site where several 9/11 hijackers lived. Turks, Egyptians, Palestinians, and Gujaratis are among the unreached people group communities in Metro New York who primarily live in New Jersey.
